The world seems to be a happy place but many of us are still living a stressful life. This stress has taken our happiness and left us with tensions and sorrows. Everyone is tired of their stressful life and therefore they do meditation for achieving piece. But as soon as they get back to work, the stress starts to build up. Many people end up having depression. And therefore it becomes very important to have peace in life. So, to achieve peace, there is the only solution which not only gives peace to the mind but is also permanent. This solution is none other than the Shanti Mantras we used to chant while performing any Yagya.

The most important element of any Shanti Mantras is the word, Om. Om is more than a word, it is a primeval sound. In other words, Om is the sacred sound of the universe from which all other sounds have been developed. This sacred sound OM represents three Realms of Consciousness. Shanti Mantras are usually chanted at the beginning and at the end of any rituals and discourses. They are chanted to fill the mind with peace and clam the reciter as well as the environment near them. Shanti Mantras is also recited to remove obstacles and other evil forces.

1. Om Asato Maa Mantra

ॐ असतो मा सद्गमय ।
तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय ।
मृत्योर्मा अमृतं गमय ।
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥

Om Asato Maa Sad-Gamaya |
Tamaso Maa Jyotir-Gamaya |
Mrityor-Maa Amrtam Gamaya |
Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih ||

Meaning:

Lead me from lies to the path of truth and remove my ego and selfishness. Fill my life with the light of wisdom, truth, and peace and help me remove the darkness which prevails inside my head. Lead me from death to immortality so that there is only peace and nothing else.

2. Om Sahanavavatu Mantra

ॐ सह नाववतु ।
सह नौ भुनक्तु ।
सह वीर्यं करवावहै ।
तेजस्वि नावधीतमस्तु मा विद्विषावहै ।
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥

Om Saha Naav[au]-Avatu |
Saha Nau Bhunaktu |
Saha Viiryam Karavaavahai |
Tejasvi Naav[au]-Adhiitam-Astu Maa Vidvissaavahai |
Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih ||

Meaning:

Let us together be protected and be nourished by God’s blessings. Let us together join our mental forces in strength for the benefit of humanity. Let our efforts at learning be luminous and filled with joy and endowed with the force of purpose. Let us never be poisoned with the seeds of hatred for anyone. Let there be peace and serenity in all the three universes.

3. Om Sarveshaam Mantra

ॐ सर्वेशां स्वस्तिर्भवतु ।
सर्वेशां शान्तिर्भवतु ।
सर्वेशां पुर्णंभवतु ।
सर्वेशां मङ्गलंभवतु ।
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥

Om Sarveshaam Svastir-Bhavatu |
Sarveshaam Shaantir-Bhavatu |
Sarveshaam Purnnam-Bhavatu |
Sarveshaam Manggalam-Bhavatu |
Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih ||

Meaning:

Let it be so ordained, that all the people experience well-being; let all the people experience peace or tranquility. Let all the people experience wholeness and completeness; let them experience prosperity and auspiciousness. May it so happen that everyone receives happiness; let them all be saint-like and be without disease and in good health. Let them see with their own eyes the goodness of life; And let them not contemplate in their conscious mind any sorrow inducing thoughts while they remain beneficiaries (-bhavet) of good fortune.

4. Om Bhadram Karnebhih Shrnuyama Devah

ॐ भद्रं कर्णेभिः शृणुयाम देवाः ।
भद्रं पश्येमाक्षभिर्यजत्राः ।
स्थिरैरङ्गैस्तुष्टुवागँसस्तनूभिः ।
व्यशेम देवहितं यदायूः ।
स्वस्ति न इन्द्रो वृद्धश्रवाः ।
स्वस्ति नः पूषा विश्ववेदाः ।
स्वस्ति नस्ताक्षर्यो अरिष्टनेमिः ।
स्वस्ति नो वृहस्पतिर्दधातु ॥

Meaning:

O gods, may we hear auspicious words with the ears; While engaged in yagnas, May we see auspicious things with the eyes; While praising the gods with steady limbs, May we enjoy a life that is beneficial to the gods. May Indra of ancient fame be auspicious to us; May the supremely rich God of the earth be propitious to us; may the destroyer of evil be well disposed towards us; may the lord ensure our welfare. Fill my life with peace and a sense of calmness.

5. Om Purnamadah Purnamidam

ॐ पूर्णमदः पूर्णमिदं पूर्णात्पुर्णमुदच्यते
पूर्णश्य पूर्णमादाय पूर्णमेवावशिष्यते ॥
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥

Om Puurnnam-Adah Puurnnam-Idam Puurnnaat-Purnnam-Udacyate
Puurnnashya Puurnnam-Aadaaya Puurnnam-Eva-Avashissyate ||
Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih ||

Meaning:

The word Om is infinite, and this universe is also infinite.
The infinite proceeds from the infinite.
(Then) taking the infinitude of the infinite (universe),
It remains as the infinite alone.

6. Om Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah

सर्वे सन्तु निरामयाः ।
